On the main square in Kobarid local dishes from the Soča valley and the surrounding area will be on offer, and local caterers and producers of local delicacies will present themselves.

Kobarid štruklji, mountain cheese, home-made honey, trout and salami are only some of the delicacies you will be able to taste. The market of local delicacies will be rounded off by a full-day programme with local artists and makers and a concert in the evening hours.

2. FRIKA FEST, Tolmin farmers' festival

In Tolmin on 11 October it will be lively. On that weekend the shepherds symbolically return this year from the high mountain pastures, where in small communities on the alpine meadows they made cheese from milk all summer long, while the livestock grazed in the open on the best vegetation between the Alps and the Mediterranean.

The Soča Valley, a paradise for an active holiday in nature

If you are a fan of outdoor activities, the  Soča Valley is certainly that corner of Slovenia and the Alps you must visit. Set off on outstanding water experiences, in kayaking and rafting na the river Soča, discover the unspoilt beauty of the canyons and the charm of the pools that inspire anglers and bathers.

Those of you who prefer to walk will enjoy the vast world of the high mountains and the stunning views offered by Julian Alps all the way to the Adriatic Sea. Awaken the explorer in yourself, discover the gems of nature and the legacy the Isonzo Front and set out on the marked lowland hiking trails. Above the exceptional nature and the opportunities for cycling more and more cyclists are also enthusiastic, and they can choose between routes of varying difficulty.

Fans of an adrenaline pulse will certainly not be bored in the Soča Valley either. Fly with a paraglider, summon the courage for a parachute jump from an aeroplane, ride down the longest zipline zip line in this part of Europe, or raise your heart rate at one of the adventure parks.

Indeed in all seasons you can choose an active experience, tailor-made for you. In winter go skiing at the international ski resort Kanin-Sella Nevea, treat yourself to a guided trip into the mountains, an organised tobogganing, and if you are well versed in the knowledge, ski touring and ice climbing as well. Every year you can take part in various active events, among which the most outstanding are Soča Outdoor Festival, Bovec Marathon and Hiking Festival.

The Soča Valley, the Julian Alps, Triglav National Park and UNESCO

UNESCO declared the Julian Alps, of which the Soča Valley is part, the first a biosphere reserve of international importance in Slovenia. With innovative approaches to connecting people and nature, the locals preserve the natural heritage and biological diversity and take care of sustainable development. The unique beauty of the nature was also recognised by the makers of the film Tales from Narnia, who shot several exciting scenes of the famous film on the Soča.
