Travel by car
Slovenia has a very extensive road network, so travelling by car is an ideal way to get to know our country. In total the country has 1,356 km of main roads, 3,391 km of regional roads and 9,554 km of local roads. The backbone of the whole road network is the traffic cross, formed by the routes with the international designations E 57 (Maribor – Celje – Ljubljana – Koper) and E 61 (Jesenice – Ljubljana – Obrežje). Taxi
The taxi service is well developed in all larger towns and tourist places. The price list of services is standardised. A taximeter is compulsory and the driver switches it on when we get into the car. Taxis do not usually cruise around the towns, but are found at particular points: bus and railway stations, airports, hotels.

Travel by bus
All the more important Slovenian places are connected by regular bus lines. Bus transport is well organised. Buses are the main means of public transport in the larger towns and their surroundings. Safe, reliable, comfortable and uninterrupted public transport throughout the City Municipality of Ljubljana and 16 suburban municipalities is provided by the public company Ljubljana Passenger Transport (LPP), which is working persistently to make the bus the best alternative to the private car. More about travelling by bus

Travel by train
Slovenske železnice operates 1,196 km of lines, and the rail network covers the whole country. Comfortable modern trains allow tourists to reach all the more important tourist destinations, or to head for the starting points of trips to the mountains, the ski slopes or the sea. Rail travel is particularly attractive for organised groups, mainly because of the youth and group discounts, which cut the fare by around 50%. Tickets
Tickets for travel around Slovenia can be bought online, via a mobile app, at larger railway stations or from the conductor. For international connections, buying or reserving in advance is recommended. More information about rail connections.

Travel by plane
Slovenia's main international airport is Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport, which several scheduled airlines connect with European and other destinations.
The list of destinations and the flight schedule change according to the season. Slovenia also has international airports in Maribor and Portorož, but most scheduled
international passenger traffic goes through Ljubljana. Slovenia can also be reached via the nearby airports of Trieste, Venice, Zagreb, Graz, Klagenfurt and Vienna, continuing the journey by bus, train, organised transfer or hire car. More about travelling by plane
Besides the three international passenger airports there are thirteen aviation centres in Slovenia from which panoramic flights over the whole country can be made. At such sport and tourist airfields all the equipment needed for sport flying and training is available. Such airfields are in Ajdovščina, Bovec, Celje, Lesce, Murska Sobota, Novo mesto, Portorož, Postojna, Ptuj, Slovenj Gradec and Šoštanj.

Travel by boat
Slovenian coastal towns are also connected by sea. A passenger catamaran called Big Red, which takes 81 passengers on board, runs on a regular line on the Portorož – Ankaran – Portorož route. It covers the journey in an hour and a half, with stops on the way at Bernardin, Piran, Izola and Koper. More about travelling by boat
