Traffic rules

Traffic regulations in Slovenia are in line with those of the European Union countries. In Slovenia you drive on the right-hand side of the road, and road markings and traffic signs are international and written in the Latin alphabet. While driving, seat belts must be worn in all seats fitted with them. Dipped headlights must be used while driving, including during the day. Compulsory equipment in the car includes: a spare set of bulbs, a warning triangle, a first-aid kit and, in winter, snow chains as well. Professional drivers (bus, taxi, lorry) are prohibited from driving under the influence of alcohol; non-professional drivers may have a maximum of half a per mille of alcohol in their blood. Every driver is obliged to drive at the legally prescribed speed, and must also adapt their speed to the condition of the road surface, the density of traffic and the weather conditions.
