The Lipizzaner

The horses of the Karst have been renowned since time immemorial for their strength, speed and endurance, which is why even the Romans sought them here in their day. The basis of the famous Lipizzaner breed is the indigenous Slovenian Karst horse, which was improved with Spanish, Neapolitan, Danish and Arab horses.

 

Lipizzaners, which are born as blacks, bays or greys, later change colour and become white. Exceptional harmony of movement, an elegant appearance and a lively temperament make it possible to train Lipizzaners for dressage riding with the most difficult elements.

 

The Lipica Stud Farm is known throughout the world for breeding noble Lipizzaner horses; already in the time of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy it was a reserve for the Viennese court and the Spanish Riding School.
