The twin-towered pilgrimage church of the Mother of God, surrounded by the wine-growing hills of Sladka Gora, is connected with numerous miracles. The church is a first-rate Baroque work of art, which places it among the most important cultural monuments in Slovenia.
The church façade, lively and playful, and the presbytery with its bell-shaped roof ending in a lantern with windows, are only some of the special features of this interesting church.
The ceiling paintings show scenes from the life of Mary, the apparition of the Virgin and miraculous healings. In the church there are five golden altars with rich Baroque decoration and the exceptional oil painting by Cebej, Mary, the Holy Trinity and All Saints. In the 18th century the church was a refuge for sick people; today it is a popular destination for outings and a pilgrimage station.
