Prekmurje lies at the far east of Slovenia by the river Mura. The region is divided into the hilly Goričko and the lowland Ravensko and Dolinsko, and around Lendava the Lendava hills rise. Its tourist character is marked by thermal water, cycle routes and the bilingual hinterland along the Hungarian border.
Moravske Toplice are a spa centre with black thermal mineral water, Murska Sobota and an administrative and cultural centre with a castle and the Regional Museum. Grad in Goričko is the most extensive castle complex in Slovenia and, according to legend, has three hundred and sixty-five rooms. It stands in the Goričko Landscape Park. Bogojina is known for the church remodelled by Jože Plečnik, Lendava is the easternmost Slovenian town.
The flat routes along the Mura are suitable for cycling, and the thermal places for bathing and wellness. Prekmurska gibanica has a protected traditional speciality guaranteed designation, and among the region's characteristic dishes is also bograč. The winegrowing hinterland of Lendava complements the spa and cycling offer.
