Stari trg ob Kolpi is a settlement and the seat of a local community in the municipality of Črnomelj, standing on a flat spur above the Kolpa valley, about eighteen kilometres from Črnomelj. As a market town by the name of Poljane it is mentioned as early as 1421 and was throughout its history important for trade and defence.
The place lies in the Poljane valley at an average altitude of about three hundred and seventy metres, and below it flows the Kolpa, which in summer warms up to pleasant bathing temperatures and brings swimming, boating and stops by the water.
