Miren is an urbanised settlement right by the state border with Italy and the seat of the municipality of Miren – Kostanjevica. The strung-out settlement lies near Nova Gorica, between three meanders of the Vipava, which leaves Slovenia here, and it is mentioned in sources from 1247.
