Premantura is a noble holiday resort in the far south of Croatian Istria. The people of Premantura are surrounded by nature such as few can boast of. South of the village there is a protected circle of coast 9.5 km long, about 1.5 wide, with a total of 30 km of indented coastline. Nowhere is the sea so blue-green in colour,so clean, as it is in the far south of Istria. The rocky beaches come in a combination of sunny bays, coves, capes and beaches.

In a relatively small area 530 plant species grow,of which 20 are orchid species, some of them special. Cape Kamenjak is a protected nature park,where there are no hotels and which is uninhabited,good for walking.

Premantura is an experience, and not only a place of rest. There you can fish, hire a canoe or a pedalo,.Because of the good winds for sport on the seayou can enjoy yourself in summer and in autumn; it is favourable for surfing and sailing. Those who like diving can hire diving equipment in six clubs in Medulin and make use of courses. The underwater world is wonderful ,surrounded by sea caves; a special attraction is around thirty locations of old ships sunk during the world wars.

You can visit the palaeontological site on the islet of Fenoliga,where in the open you can see the footprints of dinosaurs,which lived here 80-90 million years ago.

Southern Istria has eight cycling tracks; by bicycle you can get to know the towns in the area, and guides from travel agencies can help you with this.

In Medulin you can attend a riding school and take half-day and full-day excursions into the nature of Istria.

Cape Kamenjak and its surroundings offer many activities

Villa Angela and the Premantura apartments are located practically at the entrance to the protected area "Dolnji Kamenjak". The Kamenjak peninsula represents the southernmost part of the Istrian peninsula. It is located in the north-western Croatian Adriatic. Since 1966 the Kamenjak peninsula has been legally protected as an object of special importance. It is managed by the public institution Natura Histrica. The peninsula measures 9.5 km in length, and in width it stretches between 400 and 1600 metres. It is surrounded by a 30-kilometre-long and very varied coastline.

A rich variety of plants and wildlife

Cape Kamenjak, or »Donji Kamenjak«, offers shelter to numerous plants and animals, both on land and in the sea. In the area there are over 550 different species of plants; the orchids stand out in particular, among them five endemic species. 

Fishing at Kamenjak

Fishing at Kamenjak is a special experience, especially if we go by the »best« fishing hours: we will have the chance to see nature in the beautiful shades of colour given by the morning and evening sun. Fishing from the shore »na grund«, that is on the bottom, you will with a little luck and patience come across a fine gilt-head bream, a pandora or a white seabream.

Anyone wanting more action will hire a boat at the nearby little harbour or join a fishing party and try out other fishing techniques.

Cycling around Istria

Southern Istria has eight cycling paths; by bicycle you can get to know the towns in the surroundings, and guides from tourist agencies can also help you in this. Cycling in Premantura, on Kamenjak and in the surroundings is excellently catered for too. Get yourself one of the free maps and set out on a route through the surrounding Istrian villages. For those with mountain bikes a beautiful circular route has been laid out across the Kamenjak peninsula. You can also extend the tour to Gornji Kamnjak, and the route will bring you to the village and holiday resort of Banjole. For easier orientation there is also available to you a map of cycling routes around Kamenjak.

Surfing and other water sports

Thanks to the good winds for sport on the sea you can enjoy yourself in summer and in autumn; it is favourable for surfing and sailing. Nearby Medulin is a well-known outpost of surfers. There and in the surrounding area you can also hire a surfboard or take part in a surfing course.

Diving

The varied terrain under water and the diverse animal world offer excellent conditions for »snorkelling« and diving. With a little luck you will glimpse under water a harmless species of seal – the Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus Monachus). The underwater world is wonderful ,surrounded by sea caves; a special attraction is around thirty locations of old ships sunk during the world wars. Diving equipment can be hired in numerous clubs in Premantura and Medulin, where diving courses are also run.

Natural and cultural sights

Of Pula and the surrounding little towns and villages one could say that they are an open-air museum. The Pula Arena,  the Monte Christo and Fort Burginjon fortresses, on to the remains of Roman roads, churches and other buildings.
