The Snežnik castle - presentation
One of the most picturesque Slovenian castles, the Snežnik castle stands in an idyllic area beneath Snežnik. This well-preserved castle was first mentioned in the 11th century, and its present form dates back to the 15th century.
The three-storey building with a renaissance style defensive wall is filled with valuable castle equipment and furniture from the 19th century. Next to the castle is a park whose paths are lined with chestnut and lime trees.
The castle is reflected in the water of two small artificial lakes, and there are many smaller springs in the area. The castle and its surroundings are protected as part of the Snežnik Regional park. They are now used as state reception facilities for the cultural promotion of the valley.
