The Pleterje Carthusian monastery - presentation
The only Carthusian monastery in Slovenia, located in Pleterje at the foot of the Gorjanci mountains, was founded by the Count of Celje, Herman II. The oldest part of the monastery is the gothic church, where the old vestry houses a multivision presentation of the monastery and of a monk's life. In Pleterje, 30 hectares of land are worked in an environmentally friendly way and various excellent goods are produced.
Many can be found in the monastery store, such as cviček (the Slovenian wine specialty), excellent Pleterje brandies (chief among them the Pleterje pear), bee products and cheeses.
Next to the museum stands a museum of local architectural heritage with a typical farmhouse from the Šentjernej plain.
