The Ljubljana castle - presentation
The medieval fortress on the Castle hill in the middle of Ljubljana was first mentioned in historical documents in the year 1144 under the name Laybach and obtained its present form during the 16th century. In 1848, a lookout tower with a clock was built on the site of the former Pipers' Tower.
From the top of the tower, visitors have an excellent view of the entire city, its surrounding area and the nearby Kamniško – Savinjske Alps. The castle hill and park are very popular among hikers and strollers, as they provide a quiet and tranquil place just a stone's throw away from the city center.
During the summer months, the castle holds many events and festivals, and the Virtual museum brings the history of our capital city to life. The castle is lit during the night, creating a magical backdrop of light above the city.
