The Bogenšperk castle - presentation
The Bogenšperk castle was built on the site of the Lichtenberg fortification from the Middle Ages. Its name comes from the Wagen family. For two decades, the castle was owned by the famous polyhistorian and member of the Royal Society of London, Janez Vajkard Valvasor.
The famous book »The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola« was created here, and the graphic company created innumerable copper engravings of cities, towns, monasteries and castles. This renaissance building with four towers and an arcade courtyard keeps the memories of Valvasor's time alive.
Today, the castle houses exhibits from the Technical Museum of Slovenia, the Museum of Superstition, a collection of national costumes, hunting, geodesic and geological exhibits, Valvasor's work room and the copper engraver's press.
