Romanesque church Hrastovlje - presentation
A top a rocky hill above the village of Hrastovlje stands the famous romanesque church of the Holy Trinity, built in the early 12th century. It is surrounded by a wall with two fortified towers, revealing that the church was once used as a fort.
All the interior walls are covered by frescoes. The most valuable frescoes were created by the Istrian master Janez of Kastva and show images from the Old and New Testament as well as the famous Dance of Death, one of the greatest wall paintings from the Middle Ages in Slovenia.
The church is registered on the World Heritage List.
