Žalec is a land of green gold - hops. Those who want to explore can follow the Pekel forest and geological nature trail as well as the hop trail. The latter includes all of Žalec's major landmarks: the Novo Celje manor house, the Vrbje pond, the archeological park at Šempeter with large Roman tombs and, last but not least, the hopgardens. There are also two extremely popular destinations for mountaineers and recreationists nearby: the area's greatest karstic wonder, the Pekel cave, and Bukovica with its mountain lodge.
