The Šentilj municipality lies in the western part of Slovenske gorice, between the Drava and Mura river basins. The area was settled in prehistoric times, and traces of neolithic settlements have been discovered. The municipality's image is dominated by Cmurek castle with Tuscan arcades and hallways. A unique cultural monument is the raft on the Mura, as it has transported people over the river for over 80 years.
