The Gorenja vas – Poljane municipality lies in the central Poljane valley. Tiny villages and lone farms can be found as high as 1000 meters above sea level. The economy is based on mining, logging, wood processing and the production of rubber and plastic goods. Local societies organize a number of traditional events (Lily-of-the-valley day, Zitherists' meeting, Memorial hike to Blegoš, Cvetje na vasi, Harvest festival, Oratorij). The Vlastja Photomuseum shows the secrets of old photographers, and the Krvina Gallery displays many paintings.
