Brda
Brda is squeezed between the Soča river and the national border 
in the far west of Slovenia. The unique hills of the region are practically one big fruit orchard and vineyard. The area is especially known for delicious cherries.
But Brda is not just a land of wine and fruit – it also hides many cultural sights which can be best viewed from the lookout tower at Gonjače. There are three castles in the municipality, and a church stands atop almost every hill. The village of Šmartno has retained the magic of an old fortified Mediterranean village and is a true pearl.
