Most of the Pokljuka plateau mountain is situated between 1200 to 1500 meters above sea level. Ski touring trails, which during the winter attract both recreational skiers and competitors from around the globe, head over Rudno polje and through the Pokljuka forests. During the summer, these forests are very popular among berry gatherers. The slopes around the plateau are used for the grazing of livestock and the production of cheese. Due to its location, Pokljuka is also the starting point for hiking and mountaineering excursions to the Triglav mountains.
