Description of path
From the starting point - the Ajdovec hotel - the route leads eastward through the main square past the plague marking. As soon as you leave Sevnica and cross the railroad tracks, you should see a geomorphologic monument on the left. Continue in the direction of Blanec and you should see Kolmans lime tree right by the road in the village Gornje Brezovo. Continue to Poklek along the Blanščica stream, which originates in the Bohorje hills. Then, proceed to Podvrh. From Zabukovje, enter the valley of Sevnična (which begins on the hillsides of Bohor, in Ostrožnik) and head parallel to it in the direction of Krakovo. Ascend to Kurja vas through Hudo Brezje, Ruda and Lisce. Here, you have two options, A or B. Both will eventually take you to Loka. Option A: Kurja vas, Breg, Šentjur na Polju, Račica, Loka Option B: Kurja vas, Lovrenc, Okroglice, Žirovnica, Loka (A MOUNTAIN BIKE IS NECESSARY FOR THIS OPTION!) Then, the route takes you to Lovrenc, part of the Veliko Kozje-Lisca regional park. Option B leads you along Žirovniški potok, an extremely clean stream, through Okroglice and Žirovnica until you finally arrive in Loka. Option A, going from Breg to Loka, will let you see several interesting hayracks. Two are in Račica, one on the Loka plain and one south of the church of St. Helen (built in 1843), one of the oldest on the left bank of the Sava river in this area. From Loka, head in the direction of the Sava river. By the Vrhovo hydroelectric power plant, cross the bridge and the highway. Ascend to Vrhovška Gora through Prapretna and Budna vas. There, you will find the church of St. Nicholas from the 17th century, furnished in the baroque style, and Hrušica, a small village containing containing the church of the Three Kings. Next comes a descent toward Šentjanž. Cycle to Tržišče along the Hinja stream, which is very famous and an excellent trout fishing fishing area. From Malkovec, take the vineyard road to Slančji vrh and the intersection in Telče, where you should turn toward Drušče. In Telče, you can visit the church of St. Jacob, and in Drušča, you can visit the church of St. Barbara. Both churches were built in the 17th century. The route goes onward toward Primož and descends past Gornje Impolje and Dolnje Impolje. Pass through Zavratec and descend to Impoljce, a 200-year-old castle which has been rennovated and converted to a nursing home. Head down the main road through Log until you reach the road splitting off toward Mirenska dolina (the valley of the Mirna river), then cross the wooden bridge over the Mirna on your way to Dolenji Boštanj.
A plague marking, nicknamed »Martins marking« after its donator Martin Šinkovec. It was erected in 1755. As soon as you leave Sevnica and cross the railroad tracks, you should see a geomorphologic monument - natural spires of crumbly rock, called »the stone men«, with a height of over thirty meters, standing on the slope above the village of Pečje. In Trnovec, you can see the church of St. George, built in the early 14th century. In Podvrh, archeologists discovered Roman writings and a graveyard. In the immediate vicinity is the village of Vranje. Above it stands Ajdovski gradec, an archeological site and one of the oldest early Christian centres in the area of Podonavje and the Alps. It was founded in the late ancient era (5th and 6th century). In its middle stand two single-nave churches. In the smaller one, several items have been preserved: a bishops seat, a semicircular bench for priests and a christening area. Near the church, there are seven houses and a 120.000-liter reservoir. The settlement was protected by walls and guard towers. Many different objects have been found here - tools, pottery, and, most impressive of all, a weight shaped in the likeness of the goddess of the Moon. In the village, you can also visit the church of St. Stephen from the 17th century. The presbytery was rebuilt later, as is evidenced by the number »1754« in the paved floor. On the day of St. Stephen, the 26th of December, horses are blessed by the church. Horseback riders gather at the village of Marof and ride to the church. According to the old tradition, the priest who performs the rite must also ride a horse to the church. By the church, a »pušenšank« (a traditional way to sell wine) must be erected so that riders and visitors must warm up. You can find several traditional houses in the area. One of them is in the village of Zabukovje, leaning against the hillside. You can also find two WWII monuments: one in the graveyard (the graves of local partisan fighters and unknown fighters) and one on the building of the town administration building - a memorial board listing the names of fallen fighters from the village and surrounding area.
