POSAVJE – WHERE MORNINGS ARE CLOSER TO THE SUN
Posavje is formed from the three municipalities of Sevnica, Brežice and Krško. You will find friendly local people, a rich natural and cultural heritage and many events for your active or relaxing holiday. A mighty castle above the old town of Sevnica boasts well-preserved walls and a great museum collection, including baroque frescoes and the famous Luther cellar. Near Sevnica, the town of Lisca is a popular hiking and excursions hub, also attractive for hang-gliding enthusiasts and parachutists. At Boštanj the Yellow Azalea grows in abundance and this is one of the few protected areas for this plant in Europe. The slopes of Lovrenc are covered in Spring with the royal blue Clusius’ gentian.
The town of Krško is located at the place where the Sava Valley extends into the vast Krško Field and has a pretty old town. We follow the Ressel trail, leaving Kostanjevica to explore the Krakovski Woods. Where the waters of the Krka and Sava rivers meet, the town of Brežice came to be. The Posavje Museum can be found in the baroque castle with a magnificent Knights hall. In the summer they have concerts for traditional music there, known as the Festival of Brežice. In the town of Jovsi in Posavje, the swampy landscape of meadows with distinctive hedges and trees has been well preserved. This region is called "the valley of the castles" for good reason, as there are castles one after the other, ranging from Sevnica, Impoljce, Brestanica, Krško, Mokrice, Pišece and Bizeljsko. Between the Bizeljsko hills, there is the town of Pišece, the birth place of the famous Slovenian lexicographer Maks Pleteršnik, close to the green Orlica. With the sound of vineyard rattles in your ears you can follow the local wine roads and visit friendly vineyards and cellars dug into the silicic sand called "repnice". In this region, it is really not difficult to guess what they are hiding: excellent wines!
ZASAVJE
The area between the Savinja and Sava rivers is called Zasavje. It is characterised by three coalmines, Zagorje, Trbovlje and Hrastnik. The regions advertising says "Hills and valleys for recreational pleasures" and promises a lot of opportunities for recreation with numerous marked cycle and hiking trails. This part of Slovenia is well-known to mountaineers because of the many mountain trails and natural climbing places. The regional parks of Mrzlica and Kum are full of natural delights. Particularly interesting, are the cultural sites, especially miner's villages and the preserved miner's house in Njiva, which belongs to the Zasavje Museum in Trbovlje. And where water, forest and man live in harmony, you will find the picturesque and narrow Valley of Sopota and the medieval Svibna.
Bled is the perfect choice for all those who love to play golf at an amateur or professional level or just for fun at a mini golf course!
