Ivančna Gorica

The Ivančna Gorica municipality lies halfway between Ljubljana and Novo mesto. Several archeological discoveries at Vir and a Roman milestone speak of the area's historical importance. Josip Jurčič, the prolific Slovenian writer, was born nearby. This is the home of the white monks, residents of the old monastery at Stična. The Šentvid parish is even older and is often called the cradle of Slovenian choir singing. The medieval Višnja Gora maintains a special connection with the past. One of the country's most charming rivers, the Krka river, begins in the small village of Krka.
