Radovljica-old city center - presentation
Radovljica was first mentioned in historical documents in the year 1169. The old city center has retained several features of late Gothic and Renaissance architecture, such as the many details found on house fronts. Another interesting features are the greenish bricks made of volcanic stone from the local quarry.
Lined by old city houses, the main road opens into a rectangular square in the center of the medieval city. In the center of the square stands the Thurn mansion whose facade is covered by mesmerizing stuccowork figures.
The square also contains the church of St. Peter, whose towers make it look like a fortress than a church, and a parish house with arcade halls from the 16th century. Radovljica is the city of A.T. Linhart, a city of culture, of many festivals and events.
