Slovenian Cultural heritage hotel awarded prestigious Travelife Gold Certification

The boutique hotel Design Rooms Pr' Gavedarjois proud to be the first Slovenian Cultural Heritage hotel to receive the prestigious Travelife Gold Certificate for Sustainable tourism.

The prestigious Gold Certification awarded by Travelife – the International sustainability certification scheme designed by the travel industry – assesses a property’s performance in managing social, environmental and economic impacts.

Right on the border of Triglav National park and the spectacular Julian Alps, Design Rooms Pr' Gavedarjo is a restored and newly renovated boutique hotel in a Slovenian Cultural Heritage Building, the first in this region to receive Gold Certification.

The achievement of Travelife Gold Certification is a demanding process involving a total commitment towards environmental responsibility and long-term sustainability. The Design Rooms Pr' Gavedarjo undertook an independent onsite audit to prove its compliance with the 150 key points of Travelife’s sustainability criteria. Taking in a whole systems view, the criteria addresses key areas such as the minimisation of waste generation and water use, an overall reduction in energy expenditure and positive contributions to staff and human resources. Working alongside the local community, Design Rooms Pr' Gavedarjo clearly demonstrated measures that helped support local businesses and preserve the cultural traditions of the region.

For over 100 years Design Rooms Pr' Gavedarjohas been proudly owned and run by generations of the Gregori family. Recent renovations were completed with a modern approach to preserve and highlight the historic features of this unique Slovenian Cultural Heritage building. In keeping with this philosphy, modern furnishings and appliances were seamlessly integrated with old restored family furniture and paintings that date back as far as 1913. For the comfort of our guests, innovative solutions to connect living spaces, bedrooms and bathrooms were utilised to create a botique hotel that is uniquely Design Rooms Pr' Gavedarjo.

Measures undertaken

Use of all natural and local materials for renovations such as waxed wood flooring, wood furniture, organic colours and materials.

All wood furniture treated with natural wax.

Beds are made of certified organic and fair trade materials.

All linen and towels made from certified organic and fair trade cotton.

Recycled toilet paper and consumables.

Hotel toiletries and consumables are certified fully organic.

Breakfast created from organic local produce.

Complete modern amenities ie. flat-screen TV, high speed internet.

Guests at the Design Rooms Pr' Gavedarjo can uniquely enjoy pure home comforts right within the pristine nature of the Julian Alps. Sample the spectacular nature of the Triglav National Park by either hiking, mountain biking, nature walks or just plain napping under a tree.

Winter time offers a completely different wonderland of cross-country skiing or skiing and snowboarding at the nearby Kranjska Gora Mountain and Podkoren Slopes. For the more adventurous, not very far away are winter playgrounds of the Austrian and Italian Alps.
