The source lake beneath a picturesque 30-meter rock cliff, the strength of the flow of water and its biological significance all help make Krupa one of the most important and most beautiful Slovenian Karst springs. Not far from the source, the flow of the river was strong enough to power a flour mill and a sawmill. There are plenty of opportunities for a relaxing stroll around the river canyon. If you wish, you can also visit the other landmarks on the Karst nature trail in the vicinity of Semič. The spring is the natural habitat of the proteus (»human fish«) and the only place in Slovenia where the cave oyster (Congeria kuscri) can be found
