Šmartno pri Litiji is part of the western Posavje hills. Most of the town is clustered inside the basin on the right bank of the Sava river, surrounded by hills that provide excellent possibilities for hiking. Valvasor's Castle Bogenšperk and the lookout point at Primskova gora are popular destinations for trips, and many hikers are attracted to the annual journey from Litija to Čatež that also goes through Šmartno.
