The Kobarid Museum was founded in 1990 with the aim of presenting the rich history of Kobarid and above all the events on the Isonzo front from May 1915 to November 1917. In its orientation it belongs among historical museums with war themes and an anti-war message. In the foreground of the narrative are the "little people", pushed into the horrors of war, in which the colours of the uniforms do not divide them into good and bad lads.
The greater part of the permanent display is devoted to the events in the mountainous, northern part of the Isonzo front and to a detailed presentation of material about the famous battle of Kobarid – the 12th battle on the Isonzo, in which after 24 October 1917 German and Austro-Hungarian divisions pushed their Italian opponents all the way to the river Piave. These events wrote the names "KOBARID, CAPORETTO, KARFREIT" onto the maps for ever.

For groups larger than 15 people, guiding around the museum is included in the price of the ticket. For guiding smaller groups, guiding is charged in addition to the ticket, namely 20 € / hour. For larger groups we provide several guides. A guided group stays in the museum for approximately 1.5 hours.
