Pekel Cave

North of Šempeter, in the bosom of the isolated karst Ponikva plateau, hides the rich cave world of Pekel, which is considered the loveliest pearl of the Styrian karst. The cave was hollowed out by the flow of the Ponikvica, which flows out of it as the Peklenščica, and the entrance to the cave, which represents a rocky devil, is already truly imposing.

 

The cave consists of two levels – the lower one is threaded with watercourses, and the second reveals rich dripstone decoration.

 

The greatest attraction of the cave is the four-metre-high underground waterfall, which is the highest in Slovenia.
