The Vače situla - presentation

The Vače situla, a 2500-year-old bronze vessel, is the most beautiful world-renowned archaeological find from the Iron Age period and a symbol of Slovenia. The situla is 23 centimeters high and covered with decorative figures.

It was found in 1882 in Klenik, not far from Vače. The situla is particularly distinctive because of its decoration in three bands, making it an exceptional work of art for the time period. The upper band shows a festive procession of riders and chariots. The central band shows a sacrifice, a banquet and games.

Animals are featured on the third and lowest band. The place where this beautiful item was found is now marked with a large replica of the situla.
