Safety

Slovenia is a safe country. However, crime still occurs, especially in major cities. The most common crimes are thefts. Be careful: keep an eye on your belongings, don't carry more cash than you need, don't leave your wallet or valuables in visible places (ie. in your car), lock your car and don't leave valuables inside it. At night, avoid dark and empty streets and park cars on well-lit public parking lots.

Keep all valuables and large sums of money in the hotel safe. Before starting your journey, make photocopies of your passport, plane tickets, reservations etc., as they will make proving your identity and obtaining replacement documents a lot easier.

If you lose (or someone steals) your money, credit cards, passport or something else, immediately call the police (the phone number is 113).

In larger cities, you may be approached by homeless people begging for money, but they are not dangerous. As visitors in a foreign country you must respect its rules and laws which may differ from the laws of your own country. To avoid any problems, inform yourself about the local laws and customs before travelling to our country.

In the case of lost/stolen documents or other problems, you can also contact your embassy or consulate. Usually, they do their best to protect the interests of their citizens.
